The Switch 2 Is Everything I Wanted It To Be

The second greatest console of all time.

So, it’s finally here, the Nintendo Switch 2. After eight years and half a dozen rumors, Nintendo finally gave us what we wanted: The Nintendo Switch 1- Part 2: The Sequel.

There’s nothing like cracking open a new system only to discover Nintendo packaged it in the weirdest way possible.

No really, why was it packaged like that Nintendo. Why was the screen hugging the box like that? Aren’t you worried about staples?

Regardless, my system arrived safe and sound with three cans of pringles for some reason, thanks to Wal-Mart. It was marketing ploy plain and simple. You don’t have to give it to Wal-Mart, actually. Doing a good thing every once in a while does not absolve you from being Wal-Mart I am afraid.

I also received a cohort of Pringles courtesy of Alice Walton’s many crimes.

Still, I didn’t get blown, so there’s a moratorium on bad mouthing Wal-Mart for a week. I know all they did was deliver my system when they said they would, but the bar is in the mantle.

I got the Mario Kart bundle of course, but I haven’t played it much. This might come as a surprise, and while what I played was good, I cannot stop booting up Pokémon Violet and marveling at how good the game looks now.

I am not a the last few Pokémon games were meant for the Switch 2 truther, but it is plain as day these games were not meant to be run on base Switch. They are practically different games from Switch 1 to Switch 2.

And that’s how I spent my first day with my new console. Playing Switch 1 games.

You may argue that spending five hundred American dollars just play old games is not the move.

I would argue you that you obviously didn’t play two hundred hours of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Love that game, but it…did not run well at all.

Having that game run at a real framerate will fix you.

I found TWO random unplanned shinies while admiring Area Zero. Two shinies I am sure I would not have gotten without the game being more that just playable.

Even when I booted up Legends Arceus, I was pleasantly surprised that while the game is still crunchy, the framerate was rock solid.

The Switch was a near perfect system as someone who spent most of the last two decades playing handheld games mostly. Sure, I had consoles, but being able to play games on the bus and train was a huge must for me as a young adult without a car.

Now that I am well into adulthood, I still find myself playing my Switch more than I do my other systems, even if the Switch stays at home more often than not.

I spent most of the last eight years playing games on my Switch and PC. Pokémon Violet was really the first game that made me go “Yikes dude.”

At that point I had gotten use to games at least running properly, and while games like Zelda still devolved into a slideshow, it was worse in the Pokémon games.

It’s a measure of good those games were that I turned a blind eye to their glaring shortfalls.

Not so with the Switch 2. They just run as I suspect GameFreak intended them to in 2022, or close to it.

Does it suck that I had to spend five hundred dollars to experience these games in a different light? Yeah, it sucks man I can’t deny it.

I also didn’t NEED to spend the money. I wanted to. And frankly I am glad I did. The Switch gave us some of the best games of all times. If the Switch 2 gives us that, with the benefit of running great and looking great? Glad I’m here.

That is to say nothing of not needing to buy too many games either. I have an entire backlog and catalog of games to play while waiting for big releases. Even games that weren’t given direct updates run better on the Switch 2. All around a fantastic purchase that I am glad I made in these times where any distraction is welcomed.

I am looking forward to playing all of my old games on this updated system we likely should have gotten three years ago at a cheaper price, and while I am one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I would at least have the presence of mind to compliment those gnashers.

If you are on the fence about getting a Switch 2, be it the price or you simply do not think spending five hundred dollars on a handheld is not worth it, I wouldn’t say you NEED a Switch 2. You can wait, honestly, especially if you already modded your Switch 1. You know who you are.

But if you are a little freak like me, the Switch 2 is absolutely worth the purchase. I’m going to spending the next few days playing Xenoblade and shiny hunting in Pokémon while the horrors encroach all around me.

Take care.
